CHINA GROVE — Warrior Golf Club in China Grove has renovated the grill and pro shop and now sells liquor by the drink.
The club, which opened in 1999 and has sold beer and wine for 14 years, secured a liquor-by-the-drink license to help encourage more reception rentals, co-owner Rick Houston said.
The club, located at 890 Lake Wright Road, will host a fundraiser for the Humane Society of Rowan County from 4 to 5 p.m. Saturday. Humane Society members will bring rescued dogs to the event, as well as information about adopting pets.
Also Saturday, the club will host a cornhole tournament to raise money for the Humane Society.
Houston has updated the grill, adding a 17-foot bar and big-screen TVs both inside and outside.
“We can still seat 80, and we’ve changed to more of a sports restaurant-type atmosphere,” he said. “We are trying to develop more sources of income than just golf.”
The pro shop has expanded product selection and offers more custom club fittings, Houston said. Both the pro shop and grill feature new carpet and new paint schemes.
Warrior Golf Club is open from daylight to dusk and is semi-private, offering public play. The grill is open during peak times and from 7:30 a.m. to 5 or 6 p.m. on weekends.

Steve Arey of Salisbury met with Sen. Kay Hagan’s staff in Washington, D.C., recently to discuss radiation from medical imaging.
A certified radiological equipment specialist since 1990, Arey worked for the federal government for 23 years in biomedical engineering. He described a method of quality control for medical X-ray imaging systems, which he designed. New Jersey has been involved with a similar system for seven years in an effort to reduce radiation exposures and improve image quality. That state found radiation doses were lowered 52 percent and image quality increased.
Arey’s device is manufactured in Salisbury by Advance Machining Inc. The device is used as a quality assurance method in several clinics in Rowan and Iredell counties. It has been tested by the Washington state office of radiation protection and is being tested at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, Calif.

Jacob Brandt and Jason Callicutt attended a three-day training program designed to qualify him as a “Certified FeedMaster Specialist” from Southern States Cooperative, Inc.
The program is designed to augment the existing knowledge base of employees involved in advising the co-op’s customers on issues related to feeding various types of animals.
Brandt is with L.L. Goodnight & Sons, an independent dealer of Southern States Cooperative Inc., and Callicutt is from Southern States in Salisbury.

SALISBURY — Jayne Helms with Remax Leading Edge has qualified for the Remax 100 Percent Club Award, which honors the top 20 percent of company affiliates for 2012.
Helms has been working in commercial and residential real estate for more than 10 years. She earned the award for individual listing volume, individual listing units, buyer volume closed, individual units closed, individual volume closed and individual gross commission income.
Jody Rich owns Remax Leading Edge.
Helms serves on the board for the Rowan County Chamber of Commerce and Community Care Clinic and is secretary of the Salisbury Rotary Club.

SALISBURY — Belk will host the Lancome Beauty Bar artistry event May 30 at the Salisbury Mall in celebration of the company’s 125th anniversary.
Appointments for the event require a $25 reservation fee, which can be used for Lancome products. Lancome will donate a book to a local elementary school in honor of each customer who wears Belk blue to her appointment.

 Boyd Hough of Salisbury was recently inducted into the Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Hall of Fame Legends.
Hough is a wealth adviser for the East Region of Thrivent Financial.
 Hall of Fame Legends is a recognition category for existing Thrivent Financial Hall of Fame members who have 30 years of service with the organization.
Hough was inducted into the Hall of Fame Legends during a ceremony April 28. He has been with Thrivent Financial for 31 years and was previously inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2005.

CONCORD — Walker Marketing’s educational video “What Matters Most,” which is designed to initiate end-of-life care discussions, received an Award of Excellence and Best in Category at the N.C. Public Relations Society of America Inspire Awards recently.
The six-minute video was produced on behalf of Gaston Hospice and the Gaston End-of-Life Coalition.
