Stallions win tournament

The Greater Cabarrus Homeschool Stallions jayvees won a baseball tournament played at Erwin on Saturday.
The Stallions won 8-3 against the Charlotte Stampede and 13-3 against the Raleigh Hawks.
Hunter Shepherd pitched a complete game against the Stampede and fanned five. Noah Jarrett had three hits, while Shepherd, Josh Endicott and McConner Wallace had two each.
Jarrett pitched a complete game against the Hawks. Caleb Threadgill and Josh Holt had three hits, while Shepherd picked up two.

In the Rowan Middle School Conference tournament, Southeast’s girls won 5-3 against China Grove. Farrah Jordan scored four times for the Patriots on assists by Sarah Musselwhite, and Musselwhite scored one goal.
Mooresville won 1-0 against Corriher-Lipe in the other semifinal.
•Southeast’s boys won 8-1 against West Rowan Middle.
Raunel Vasquez scored four goals. Braxton Rogers, Daniel Carrillo, Ahmed Mustafic and Michael Rosas scored one each. Rogers, Vasquez, Mustafic, Andrew Bonilla and German Delgado had assists.
In the other semifinal, Mooresville won 1-0 against Knox on penalty kicks.
Southeast will host Mooresville in both championship games.

Carson ended the season with a 9-0 loss at Charlotte Catholic on Saturday in the second round of the 3A state playoffs. Carson finished 10-8-1. Catholic (18-2-3) advances to play Marvin Ridge.

The second round of the baseball state playoffs is set for Tuesday.
Carson will be the only local team at home. The Cougars will host Asheboro in a 3A game. John Daugherty is the probable pitcher for Carson.
In 3A, South Rowan will play at Charlotte Catholic. In 2A, Salisbury travels to Unionville (near Monroe) to play Piedmont. In 1A, North Rowan will play South Stokes in Walnut Cove. In 4A, Davie plays CPC rival West Forsyth in Clemmons.

The second round of the softball state playoffs is set for Tuesday.
East Rowan will be at home against Southwestern Randolph for a 3A game. The SWR Cougars are a familiar opponent for Rowan teams in the playoffs. Also in 3A, Carson travels to Concord to play SPC champ Robinson, and West Rowan plays NPC rival North Iredell in Olin.

East Rowan will play at home in the third round of the 3A playoffs against Weddington on Monday afternoon.

State championships will be held Monday and Tuesday. In 3A, Carson’s Andrew Purcell and South Rowan’s Davis Richards will be competing as individuals. Salisbury’s team will be competing for another championship in 2A.

The Kannapolis Intimidators lost 12-4 at Asheville on Saturday. Asheville took control with a five-run second. Micah Johnson again was the bright spot for the Intimidators (13-19). He knocked in two runs and stole his 32nd base.

Preston Troutman (East Rowan) had two hits in Appalachian State’s 4-0 loss to Gonzaga on Saturday.
• Jon Crucitti (West Rowan) belted a triple as Army beat Navy 7-3 to finish a sweep. Army will play Holy Cross next weekend for the Patriot League championship.
