Salisbury didn’t have quantity, but it had quality in the 2A Midwest Regional held at North Stokes on Saturday.
Salisbury’s girls placed fourth, while the SHS boys placed sixth, and the Hornets had a double regional champion in Rasean Bledsoe and regional champs in Jaleesa Smoot, Cheyenne Gloster and Keion Adams.
Waxhaw Cuthbertson won the girls meet with 161 points. Salisbury had 46.
Smoot won the 100 (12.55 seconds) and took second places in the 200 (25.38) and 400 (58.16). Top-four finishers qualified for next weekend’s state meet.
Gloster won the discus (118 feet, 3 inches) and took third in the shot (33-3 1/2).
Zocola Hamilton was a state qualifier with a fourth in the triple jump (32-6 3/4).
West Davidson placed second with 65 points.
• In the boys meet, Cuthbertson won with 103 points. Salisbury had 41. CCC teams placed fourth (Central Davidson), fifth (Lexington), sixth (SHS) and seventh (Thomasville) in the regional standings.
Bledsoe won the high jump (6-2) and triple jump (43-10 1/2). Adams won the shot put (51-9).
Other Hornets qualifying for the state meet were Philip Simons, third in the 1600 (4:43), and Justin Ruffin, fourth in the 100 (11.05).

3A State Meet

Boys

In the 3A championships held in Greensboro on Saturday, Rowan schools and A.L. Brown weren’t a major factor.
Northern Guilford won the state title with 57 points. The meet used a 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 scoring system.
Carson’s boys finished 23rd with 12 points. West Rowan was 29th with 9 points. East Rowan and Brown tied for 31st with 7 points apiece.
Carson was led by its throwers. Myquon Stout (50-10) placed third in the shot put. Tre Williams scored in two events. He was sixth in the discus (137-1) and eighth in the shot put (45-1 1/4). Andrew Hower chipped in with two points for seventh place in the high jump (6-2).
• West’s points came from triple jumper Chris Patterson (4th, 45-3) and pole vaulter Caleb Cranfield (5th, 13-6).
• East’s points were all in the pole vault. Marshall Shank placed fourth (13-6), while Wesley Haynes was seventh (13-0).
• A.L. Brown’s points came from sprinter Terry Campbell, eighth in the 100 (11.01) and 200 (22.33), and the fourth-place 4×800 relay team of Kellen Corson, Timmy Hall, Johnny Hodge and Max Chandler (8:07).
Girls

Berry won the state title with 51 points. A.L. Brown was 21st with 12 points. West Rowan tied for 30th with 6 points. East Rowan was 34th with 5.5 points.
Talvanisha Lawing scored all 12 points for the Wonders. She was third in the triple jump (34-3) and sixth in both the long jump (17-7 1/2) and 100 hurdles (15.66).
West got five points from Khaila Hall, fifth in the long jump (17-9 1/4), and one from Allison Manley, seventh in the shot (34-6 1/4).
East got points from Brittany Small, tied for sixth in the high jump (5-0), and Haylee Gardner, sixth in the discus (108-6). Gardner threw 8 feet better than her seed distance.
Carson’s Jesse Troutman just missed scoring. She cleared 9 feet and was ninth in the pole vault. Northwest Cabarrus’ Maddie Lowe was second in the 1600 (5:11).
