China Grove repeated as Rowan County Middle School Conference regular-season champs.
The Red Devils clinched the title with a 5-4 win against West Rowan Middle when Dillon Norton hit a two-run walkoff homer in the seventh.
China Grove (12-2) had 10 hits, with Austin Chrismon getting three and Isaac Bell and Norton getting two each.
Walker Joyce was the winning pitcher. He held the Bulldogs to two hits the last three innings.
Owen White had three hits for the Bulldogs, and Brandon Walton had two.
The tournament starts at North on Saturday.
Salisbury’s doubles team of Brock Overcash-Clint Comadoll will play against Newport Croatan’s Peter Alfano-Jackson Winchester in the first round of the 2A individual state championships today at 9 a.m. in Cary.
Golf state championship will be held next Monday and Tuesday.
Salisbury is the two-time defending 2A champion and will play at Longleaf in Southern Pines.
Carson’s Andrew Purcell and South Rowan’s Davis Richards will play in the 3A state championships at Foxfire Golf and Country Club in Pinehurst as individual qualifiers.
UNC Pembroke shelled USC Aiken, the top-ranked team in Division II, 14-3 on Thursday in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament.
The Kannapolis Intimidators won 13-12 at Asheville in a wild one on Thursday.
Micah Johnson had three hits, scored four runs and stole four more bases. He has 29 steals.
Kyle Robinson had three hits and three RBIs.
• Jerry Sands had a double on Thursday for Indianapolis, but the former Catawba star is still trying to shake a season-long slump.
He’s batting .141 at Indianapolis with no homers and eight RBIs.
In the Rowan County Middle School Conference girls soccer tournament, Southeast won 3-2 against Erwin. Jessica Ferrioli scored two goals for the Patriots, and Sandy Alvarez had one.
China Grove won 2-0 against West Rowan Middle. Corriher-Lipe beat Knox 3-2.
There’s a Mooresville-North Rowan girls-boys doubleheader today, starting at 4:30.
The 32nd annual Edgar Welch Memorial Golf Tournament for Rowan County women will be played at 9 on May 21 and 23 at Corbin Hills and the Country Club of Salisbury.
The tournament is open to all women with an established handicap at a Rowan club and anyone who has played in the tournament before.
Entry forms are available at local clubs. The $60 fee includes golf, carts, prizes and luncheon on May 23. The format is net best-ball twosome. Gross prizes also are awarded.
The defending champions are Mary Seaford and Kristi Laton. The tournament is played in memory of Edgar Welch. Welch’s wife, Elaine, established the tournament in his memory. Contact Jo Shaw at 704-636-1592.
The Salisbury 49ers Police Athletic League football team will have registration and workouts on May 14, 15 and 16 at Town Creek Park, across from House Of Prayer Church. People interested in coaching should attend.

East Rowan and Salisbury YMCAs are offering Summer Challenge Soccer/
Challenge soccer is a program that offers a higher level of development and competition than the typical recreation program. The program focuses on developing skills for individual and team performance. It requires a higher level of commitment and dedication from players and parents.
There will be 10 regular-season games and a tournament.
Register as individuals or register teams.
League age is as of June 1. There will be age group play for 8&9 (9U), 10&11 (11U) and 12&13 (13U).
Register through June 1. Team roster and payments must be submitted by June 1.
Cost is $125. Late registration fee is $10.

Falcon Basketball Camp will be held at West Rowan High on July 15-18 for rising 2nd-8th grade boys.
Camp is from 9 a.m. until noon.
