The third annual Faith School Alumni Reunion was held recently at Faith Elementary School.
The reunion took place in the school’s cafeteria with 80 alumnus and guests present.
Tim Burns, assistant principal, welcomed the group. Scott Eagle gave the blessing. A meal of pulled pork and the fixins was enjoyed.
After the meal memories were shared by classmates from 1930-2011. Allen Marshall led the “memory trail.”
Recognized were: the oldest present, which was Arlene Basinger Haynes; the youngest present, Paige Eagle who completed the fifth grade in 2011; traveled the farthest, Rachael Jordan Holshouser, who lives in Sanford.
Most generations present that attended Faith School: there was a three-way tie between Sherry Gantt Eagle and her son Scott and grand daughter Paige; Buddy Barger and his son Corey and grandson Caleb; Paula Hill and her son Scott and grand daughter Megan.
Next year the reunion will be held the first Thursday in May. Call the school to get you name on the list if you attended Faith School.

Beta Sigma Phi celebrates Founders Day
Members of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority celebrated its 81st Founders Day on April 30 at a banquet hosted by the Iota Phi Chapter at First United Methodist Church in China Grove.
The following chapters were in attendance: Iota Psi, Xi Alpha Delta, Lambda Master, Xi Delta Chi and Xi Alpha Delta, along with Envoy and Legacy members.
Mayor Paul Woodson was in attendance and read a proclamation from the City of Salisbury naming the week of April 29 through May 3, 2013, as Beta Sigma Week for all the Salisbury chapters.
Woman of the Year for 2012-2013 was named by each chapter. They are: Iota Psi, Marlene Turner; Xi Delta Chi, Linda Tutterow; Xi Alpha Delta, Linda Briggs; and Lambda Master, Carolyn Henderson.
The Alpha Omega nominee for the 2012-2013 year is Linda Briggs. City Council’s Girl of the Year is Regeana Cashion.
Iota Psi member Karen Smith received congratulations from fellow sisters on her graduation from Rowan-Cabarrus Community College and recently becoming a lifetime member. She was pledged in December 1982.
The new theme for all Beta Sigma Phi members worldwide is “Light Up Your Life.”
New members for Salisbury city council are: president, Vicki Lippard; vice president, Alice Richie; recording secretary, Loretta Burleyson; treasurer, Linda Briggs.
Members also attended the Carolinas convention in Myrtle Beach May 3 through May 5.
Beta Sigma Phi was started in 1931 during the Great Depression when a need was recognized for an organization that could bring women together in a social, cultural and educational climate otherwise not available during those difficult times. Walter W. Ross was the founder. The headquarters is located in Kansas City, Mo. Their motto is “Vita, Scientia, Amicitia,” meaning life, learning, friendship.
Salisbury Women’s Club hear from Community Care Clinic
During the May meeting of the Salisbury Woman’s Club, Krista Woolly, executive director of the Community Care Clinic of Rowan County, explained the mission and history of the clinic.
She also screened a video of clients who spoke of how they had been helped by going to the Clinic.
Woolly encouraged the club members to become volunteers and refer clients who need help. She explained that $1 donation can buy $8 worth of supplies.
Ann Bingham, chaplain, presented thoughts about parenthood.
Angelia Bates, president, led the group in selecting service projects for the next months.
The club plans to provide cookies for the Hospice House when it is opened. Members will collect items for Battered Women’s Shelter and Rowan Helping Ministry during the June meeting.
The president gave a warm welcome to new member, Deb Smith.
Hostesses Rose Ward and Ann Bingham decorated the tables with a patriotic Memorial Day theme for the luncheon catered by Trinity Oaks.
