Rowan County Sheriff’s Deputy Jagger Naves, who works criminal interdiction, was recently honored with the North Carolina Outstanding Young Public Servant Award.
The award was presented by the North Carolina Junior Chamber Jaycees. The award recognizes correctional officers, firefighters, rescuers and law enforcement who through their own resources have achieved success and leadership in their profession or contributed to their community through civic work.
Naves was nominated April 10 and was honored at a May 4 ceremony at the University of Chapel Hill with other nominees from across the state.
Naves is a 1998 graduate of West Rowan who began his six-year law enforcement career with the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office. He was assigned to the patrol division before being promoted in 2009 to the Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (A.C.E.) Team.
Naves currently works criminal interdiction on Interstate 85 and has been a part of numerous seizures of bulk narcotics, money and weapons seized from drug traffickers and their illegal organizations.
Naves has used his law enforcement background to help mentor Rowan County youth and is currently working on bringing the Be Responsible And Keep Everyone Safe (B.R.A.K.E.S) Program to the Rowan-Salisbury School System. Naves will educate Rowan County youth on the permanent consequences of aggressive driving, texting while driving and driving while impaired.
