CONCORD — Cooperative Christian Ministry will bring its mobile food pantry to St. James Greater Catholic Church, 139 Manor Ave. SW, on Thursday.
The pantry will be at the church from 10 a.m. to noon.
This is the second stop of the year for the mobile food pantry, which is done in partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank. Last year, Cooperative Christian Ministry gave food to more than 13,000 people through the program, and organizers expect to exceed that number this year.
On average, each mobile pantry distributes close to six tons of food to 350 needy families, the organization said.
“Mobile Food Pantries are the most efficient way that CCM has to put groceries on the tables in neighborhoods of high need,” Ed Hosack, executive director of Cooperative Christian Ministry, said in a news release. “Sponsoring churches, businesses, groups and volunteers make it possible.”
In the news release, Hosack said warmer weather usually comes with an increased need.
“This is when families will struggle to keep groceries on the table and food pantries will be depleted,” he said. “We encourage, churches, businesses and other groups to consider making food drives a part of their summer plans.”
The next mobile food pantry is scheduled for April 25 at Memorial United Methodist Church, 1100 W. C St., in Kannapolis. Eight more stops are planned in Kannapolis and Concord throughout the summer, with the last one on Oct. 24.
Recipients must be present to get groceries and will need to provide information including name, address, the number of people in the family and the household’s gross income.
