Fire burns duplex in Kannapolis

KANNAPOLIS — Three people escaped injury when a fire broke out at their duplex Thursday night.
At 8:33 p.m., the Kannapolis Fire Department was dispatched to a fire in an apartment at 267 Briarcliff Drive off South Main Street. Firefighters arrived on the scene to find heavy fire coming from one unit of the duplex. Five other people were in the adjoining unit. All were able to escape without injury. The cause is under investigation.
The fire department had 30 personnel on the scene, in addition to Cabarrus County EMS, according to a release from Kannapolis Fire Department. Odell Volunteer Fire Department assisted with district coverage.
The American Red Cross — Cabarrus County Chapter is assisting the families.
