SALISBURY — Rowan commissioners will hold a public hearing at the commissioners’ meeting Monday as some Wellington Estates residents hope to switch fire districts.
Rowan County Fire Marshal Aaron Youngblood said the residents of the subdivision just off Moose Road hope the move will decrease insurance rates.
“A few months ago the citizens of Wellington approached us wanting to transfer fire protection from Mt. Mitchell to Bostian Heights fire district,” Youngblood said.
Commissioners could vote to approve the changes or they could delay action.
Youngblood said he’s been looking at how to change the district for the last few months.
“I’m happy to do it either direction,” he said. “Bottom line, it’s what the citizens want and we’re just trying to do that.”
Commissioners are also expected to hear public comment on a request by several Rowan residents to have property along U.S. 52 rezoned to a commercial restriction.
Along with discussions, county administrators will consider several county appointments for position vacancies.
Commissioners will meet in the second floor of the J. Newton Cohen Sr. Rowan County Administration Building at 130 W. Innes St. at 3 p.m.
