Food Lion names store manager of year, honors Oglesby

SALISBURY — Food Lion has recognized Maclaren Oglesby, store manager at 525 Jake Alexander Blvd. West, as a Southern Division regional winner and Charles Inman of Clayton as the recipient of its 2012 Store Manager Excellence Award.
They were selected from a group of 1,119 store managers across the company.
In addition to Inman, Oglesby was one of 11 others recognized. 
“Charles is an excellent leader in his store and he delivers the Food Lion brand to our customers and his associates every day,” said Troy Leshko, division vice president for the Mid-Atlantic Division.

Food Lion customers raise $3.7 million for Easter Seals
SALISBURY — Food Lion customers raised $3.7 million during a four-week campaign. The money will be used to help more than 100,000 children and adults with disabilities throughout 11 Easter Seals affiliates in the Southeast.
Since Food Lion started the program 22 years ago, it has raised more than $36 million for Easter Seals.

CommunityOne Bank names new Salisbury manager
CommunityOne Bank has named Scott Jones commercial relationship manager for the Salisbury market.
“We are pleased to welcome Scott to the CommunityOne Commercial Banking team and are confident his experience and familiarity with the local market will be assets toward helping us grow our business in Rowan and Cabarrus counties,” said Doug Smith, area commercial banking executive for CommunityOne.
Jones, a longtime Cabarrus County resident, joins the bank with more than 15 years of banking experience, most recently working with First Citizens. As commercial relationship manager, he will be responsible developing and managing commercial and industrial relationships, particularly with privately held businesses with revenue under $100 million.
Jones received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from University of North Carolina at Charlotte and a master’s degree in business administration from Winthrop University.

Hough honored by Thrivent Financial for outstanding performance
 SALISBURY — Boyd Hough, a wealth adviser with Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, has qualified for the Summit Circle conference by providing financial guidance and solutions to members of the organization in 2012. Nine percent of Thrivent Financial’s nearly 2,300 financial representatives qualified for this honor.
 Hough is with Thrivent Financial’s East Regional Financial Office, serving Lutherans and their family members in Salisbury and surrounding communities.
 Hough will be recognized by his peers from across the country at Thrivent Financial’s annual conference. Hough has been with Thrivent Financial for 31 years.  He has been recognized for his performance 31 times.

Cozart Lumber recognized for performance
Cozart Lumber and Supply Co. has received a certificate of excellence for outstanding performance of yard operations at a recent national Lumbermen’s Merchandising Corp. Roundtable.
Operations staff receiving this award were Joel Beaver, John Hedrick, Brad Sifford, David May, Brad Yelton and Ryan Pless.
Roundtable moderator was Ruth Kellick-Grubbs, president of Kellick and Associates and an international speaker, management consultant and trainer specializing in the lumber and building materials industry.
Cozart Lumber hosted the LCM Roundtable, which included lumber and building material dealers from across the nation.
The national buying group has more than 1,200 locations nationwide with annual sales volumes exceeding $8 billion.
Cozart Lumber and Supply Company is a third-generation, locally owned supplier of lumber and building materials to Rowan and surrounding counties for over 75 years. Cozart’s is open to the public.

Hendrix Barbecue serving breakfast all day
SALISBURY — Hendrix Barbecue is now serving breakfast all day.
Located at 2488 Statesville Boulevard, Hendrix is open from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The restaurant is closed on Sunday.

Athletic trainers honors Carolinas HealthCare
Carolinas HealthCare System’s sports medicine department received several awards at the 36th Annual North Carolina Athletic Trainers Association spring awards meeting held on March 22 and 23 at Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast.
Dr. Katherine Walker, assistant director of Cabarrus Sports Medicine Fellowship and physician at Sports Medicine & Injury Center, received the Sports Medicine Person of the Year Award. Dr. Walker practices family medicine at the Cabarrus Family Medicine’s Harrisburg location and provides sports medicine care at the Sports Medicine and Injury Center in Concord. She also teaches residents in the Cabarrus Family Medicine Residency Program.
Walker is an associate team physician for Catawba College and volunteers as the team physician for Central Cabarrus High School. She has also served as a team physician for the United States National Synchronized Swim Team.
Sports medicine manager Leigh Ann Caldwell, and athletic trainer and sports medicine coordinator Grady Hardeman, received the Sports Medicine Athletic Trainer of the Year Award in Clinical and Emerging Practice. Caldwell is responsible for 43 certified athletic trainers in four different counties as part of the Carolinas HealthCare System Sports Medicine Outreach program. She is also responsible for other various projects and special events within the department.
Hardeman manages the Kohl’s Cares for Kids Injury Prevention Grant and ImPACT Neurocognitive Concussion Management Database, a computer-based program that helps determine when a high school athlete can return to competition following a concussion. He is also co-chair of the Heart of a Champion Day, a free athletic screening for area high school athletes.
Melissa Sparks, athletic trainer for Jay Robinson High School, received the Secondary School Athletic Trainer of the Year Award for Outreach Programs. Sparks works with Cabarrus County Schools to prevent, assess and treat any injuries by working with physicians, coaches and other athletic trainers in the county.
