John Patterson Jr. of Spencer, a noted bottle collector, also dabbles in other things of local history, and he recently traded for this metal sign, which had been purchased at a sale by another collector. Patterson reports that it is 12- by 41/4 inches. “I believe it was for mounting above a license plate, most likely above the city tag on the front of a car,” he says. Patterson adds he has had no luck in finding any information about Millie’s Tavern or where it might have been located. He thinks the sign might date back to the 1930s or 1940s. “Could possibly be earlier,” Patterson says. “I am always attracted to local items.” If you have any information behind the sign, contact Patterson at ncmilks@carolina.rr.com.
