No cause has been determined in a fire that destroyed a home on Old Concord Road early Wednesday.
Homeowners called 911 after 12:30 a.m. when a fire began under a covered porch and quickly spread to the attic. The home is located in the 4000 block of Old Concord Road.
“It’s possibly electrical wiring, but we can’t prove that at this time,” said Rowan County Fire Marshal Aaron Youngblood.
He said the fire was not malicious in nature, but the exact cause has not been determined.
Multiple fire departments were called to the scene and others were called in for additional tanker trucks to provide a water supply, he said.
When firefighters arrived, they found heavy flames and took a defensive stance.
It took firefighters some time to extinguish the fire. The investigation into the fire continued through Wednesday. The home is a complete loss, Youngblood said and uninhabitable.
The American Red Cross is assisting the family.
