GREENSBORO (AP) A high school basketball player at a private school in Greensboro has died after collapsing during a game.
Junior Josh Level of New Garden Friends collapsed with about 3 minutes left during Tuesday night’s game at Quality Education Academy in Winston-Salem. Lore Fariss, New Garden Friends’ director of advancement, said Level was taken to the Brenner Children’s Hospital at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, where he died.
Fariss said the cause of death is unknown. Funeral arrangements were incomplete Wednesday.
Level, a 6-foot-5 guard, had drawn recruiting interest from Division I schools. Fariss described Level as “fun-loving” and “grounded,” calling him “a pretty special kid.”
Counselors were at the school Wednesday to talk with students.
New Garden Friends is a pre-kindergarten through 12th grade Quaker school founded in 1971.
