Rowan County’s Relay For Life teams plan to keep folks busy and happy at fundraisers crucial to meeting the county goal of $400,000. To date, $45,863 has been raised, but there’s more to do before the Relay year ends and the Relay event on May 3-4.
Team Rejoice is collecting used cellular phones, co-sponsored by Power House Recycler. Cell phones can be in any condition — working, broken, new, used or outdated. Each phone collected equals a donation to the American Cancer Society through Relay For Life of Rowan County. Contact Arlene at 980-216-1067. Collections will continue through the Relay For Life in May.
Join the BloodHound Gang at their bake sale on Friday at 2 p.m. at the H&B Market in Cleveland (across from Freightliner).
Breast cancer survivors, male and female, are invited to volunteer by helping others diagnosed with breast cancer to cope through the American Cancer Society’s Reach to Recovery program. Training for new volunteers and for re-training will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the society’s offices, 1901 Brunswick Ave., Suite 100, Charlotte. Contact LeeAnna Perry, leeanna.perry@cancer.org or 704-553-5378 for more information and to register.
Dine and dance the night away on Saturday with the Sweet Potato Queens at the Be-Boppin’ Valentine’s Dance from 7-11 p.m. at the F&M Trolley Barn, 125 Liberty St. Music by Virtual Sounds. Donation is $25 per person for appetizers, dinner, dancing, drawings, silent auction and more. Tickets available at the door. All proceeds to Relay For Life of Rowan County.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office team hosts Breakfast and Lunch for Relay on Tuesday, Feb. 12 in the Liberty Street courthouse parking lot beginning at 8 a.m. Have a sausage sandwich (donation $2) from 8-11 a.m, or enjoy a bowl of chili (donation $5) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m to support the team’s efforts to fight cancer. Pre-orders will be accepted for delivery to your office by contacting Chad.Moose@rowancountync.gov. Sheriff’s Office Relay For Life T-shirts are also for sale at the event.
