WINSTON-SALEM (AP) — A volunteer church treasurer at a Catholic church in Winston-Salem has been charged with taking more than $4,000 from a church group.
Winston-Salem police said Monday that 61-year-old Rose Parks Hinson was arrested Monday and charged with embezzlement.
Hinson had been the volunteer treasurer for the Saint Monica’s Ladies Guild Fund at St. Benedict The Moor Catholic Church.
Church officials called police in August.
Investigators think Hinson took more than $4,000 from the ladies guild fund over a nine-month period.
Church officials say the theft had no effect on the church’s finances.
It was not clear if Hinson has an attorney. She is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 21.
