SALISBURY — Salisbury Police investigators are searching for four men who stole two vehicles from a Salisbury car dealership and led police on a car chase.
A member of the Police Interdiction Team (PIT), spotted two vehicles at 10:30 p.m. on Monday he believed were street racing along South Jake Alexander Boulevard.
Two vehicles were stolen from Cloninger Ford/Toyota/Scion, 511 S. Jake Alexander Blvd. One vehicle, a white four-door Infiniti, was parked in the roadway. The other, a small silver four-door Infiniti sport utility vehicle, took off toward Interstate 85, said Police Capt. Melonie Thompson.
The officer followed the suspects on I-85, toward Charlotte, in the Infiniti SUV, she said. A chase ensued around 10:40 p.m. and eight minutes later ended when the stolen vehicle the suspects were driving spun out of control and wrecked. The wreck occurred in Kannapolis near mile marker 58. The vehicle did have some damage to the front.
The suspects ran into a Concord neighborhood, near Parkwood Drive and Emery Avenue.
An hour after the crash, a man walked into a Kangaroo convenience store, half a mile away from the wreck. A surveillance video showed the man was bloody and had dirt all over his jeans. Police believe the man at the store was one of the suspects who ran from police when the SUV crashed.
Late Monday night, Concord Police stopped two men in a car authorities believe was connected to the theft. This vehicle is believed to be stolen.
Police returned to the dealership to obtain surveillance video. The video showed two males walking from the Holiday Inn, where they were parked, to the dealership. The hotel is located at 530 S. Jake Alexander Blvd, across the street from the dealership.
One of the suspects pulled something from his pocket, unlocked the doors, and both men got inside the vehicle.
