Each year the June Evans Award is given to the Non-Life Master with less than 300 points who earned the most points in the year.
June Evans’ wish was to honor the efforts of those newcomers to the game. This year, we honor Dick Brisbin, an avid player and a student of the game.
There are many players in contention for next year’s honor. You could be the next.
Most casual bridge players will learn the “bare-bones” form of most conventions. There is often much more to a convention carrying on to later bids in an auction. Most of the conventions discussed so far are explained in their simplest forms. There are many books written that explore the depths.
Today, we look simply at the Balancing Double bid. This bid occurs when the player who would close out the bidding with the third pass, doubles.
His count might be just short of a take out double but he shows some support for the other suits and a wish to compete for the contract by asking his partner to make a bid. This bid keeps opponents from winning a cheap contract and most certainly putting points in their column and not yours.

During the Tuesday Women’s Club game new players Shirley and Ron Jeffers were first, with a tie for second by Toni Iossi and Carol Bachl and Pat Macon and Judy Gealy.
