CHARLOTTE (AP) — The Carolinas Aviation Museum in Charlotte will get pieces of NASA’s space shuttle program for its permanent exhibit.
The Charlotte Observer reported () the museum will get an emergency escape basket from the shuttle program pieces that NASA is giving to various museums. Though astronauts were trained to use the baskets, they were never needed on the launch pad
Museum President Shawn Dorsch says the museum likely will get other shuttle equipment as well.
NASA says the museum also will receive other items on loan by mid-March, including a production model of the Hubble Space Telescope, an astronaut survival kit and a one-third scale model of the Apollo command module from the moon program.
