Kannapolis photographer Karen Goforth, founder of Focused on a Cure, a Kannapolis based nonprofit, presented the Rowan Breast Health Center with a $6,000 check this week. The funds from her grant will be used to intensify the community education outreach on self breast exams and increase screening mammography to women in Rowan County who are uninsured or cannot otherwise afford a mammogram.
The Rowan Breast Health Center is leading the fight against breast cancer with the latest technology and a team of specialized experts including board-certified radiologists who are nationally accredited in mammography. Jill McNeely, serves as the breast health center nurse navigator. Nurse navigators are specially trained in breast health to educate, support and walk the patient through treatment. Jill McNeely was instrumental in helping to secure this important grant for Rowan Breast Health Center, a statement said.
“As a breast health navigator, I see women in our community struggle financially to pay for healthcare costs. The generosity of Focused on a Cure will assist in providing much needed screening mammography for uninsured and underinsured women in Rowan County. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Karen and the Focused on a Cure initiative as we move forward to eliminate breast cancer,” McNeely said.
Focused on a Cure was founded in 2007 and became a non-profit organization in 2009. In 2012, Focused on a Cure raised $37,000 for breast health projects.
