MOORESVILLE — Two people were taken to the hospital Tuesday after a two-vehicle collision in western Rowan County, near the Iredell County line.
The wreck happened about noon near the intersection of N.C. 152 and Shinn Farm Road, not far from Pedulla Excavating & Paving.
Chase Adkins, 20, of Airport Road, Salisbury, was heading west on N.C. 152 in a Nissan passenger car, when he ran off the road and then crossed the center line into the path of an oncoming pickup, said N.C. Highway Patrol Trooper D.R. Morgan.
Mark Ramos, 41, of Mint Hill, was heading east on N.C. 152 in his Dodge pickup. The car had extensive damage to the front and passenger’s side, while the pickup had damage and to the driver’s side of the vehicle and the front.
Adkins and his passenger, a man in his 20s, whose name was unavailable, were both taken to the hospital by Rowan EMS. Both were wearing seat belts.
Ramos, who was not injured, was also wearing a seat belt. He walked around the scene as the vehicles were being towed away. He declined comment.
Traffic was backed up with both lanes of the roadway blocked and was opened a little more than an hour after the crash occurred.
Rowan County Rescue Squad responded along with West Rowan and Atwell fire departments.
Rescuers tried to call in a helicopter but weather prevented the aircraft from flying.
