Dr. Eric R. Hake, associate professor of economics and department chair of business & economics at Catawba College, recently attended the annual conference of the Association for Evolutionary Economics in San Diego, Calif., a conference he helped organize as the secretary of the association.

Phil O’Hara organized the conference sessions with the theme “Financial Crises, Debt Crises & Deep Recessions: Institutions, Policies & Strategies for Sustainable & Equitable Recovery.” Highlights of the program included the Veblen-Commons award address by Malcolm Rutherford (University of Victoria) titled “J.M. Clark and Institutional Economics” and the residential address by James K. Galbraith (University of Texas, Austin) titled “The Third Crisis in Economics.”

The conference was held in conjunction with the American Economics Association, the largest professional organization of economists. More details about the program can be found at www.afee.net. The Association for Evolutionary Economics is a nonprofit association organized in 1967 to promote institutional economics in the traditions of Thorstein Veblen and John R. Commons.
