SALISBURY — At least two people were taken to the hospital after a head-on collision Thursday evening on Gheen Road.
According to Sgt. E.T. Suttles with the N.C. State Highway Patrol, a silver car was driving east a little after 6 p.m. Thursday when it struck a white SUV traveling west.
A witness told the Highway Patrol that just before the accident, the silver car passed her on a double yellow line at a high rate of speed, Suttles said. After driving around a curve, the witness then came up to the aftermath of the accident.
Charges are pending, Suttles said.
Though investigators described the wreck as a head-on collision, the front of the SUV and the rear of the passenger car appeared to have the most damage. One person was pinned into a vehicle and had to be extracted by emergency personnel.
A helicopter was called out to Rowan Regional Medical Center for one of the people in the wreck. At least one other person was taken to the hospital in an ambulance.
The Highway Patrol did not release names or any other information Thursday night.
