The paper dealt with modern popular music played during intermissions in as well as prior to performances of Shakespeare’s plays at the Blackfriars Playhouse in Staunton, Va., and how that music helps to emphasize themes and other aspects of the plays. While at the conference, Butler also chaired a session entitled “Digital Canons,” which included papers about using digital media to aid in teaching Medieval and Renaissance literature.
