The Wallace and Graham Santa’s Run/Walk for Charity will be Saturday near the Millbridge Ruritan building and Sloan Park. The 5K starts at 9 a.m., and a fun run for kids 12 and younger starts at 9:50 a.m. Walkers are encouraged to take part over the 3.1-mile course through rural countryside.
Proceeds for the event go to Rowan Helping Ministries West. Canned and packaged food donations will be taken through both races. Sponsors for the event are Wallace and Graham Law Offices, Rowan Regional Medical Center, Gay’s Chapel United Methodist Church, Millbridge Ruritan, Stout Heating and Air Conditioning Inc., Godley’s Garden Center, Locke Fire Department and Mount Ulla Fire Department.
All participants will get a festive long sleeve, dri-fit shirt. Awards will be presented in 13 age groups for men and women. Refreshments will be available to all participants following the event.
Race Director Mark Martin has designed large Christmas ornament awards, plus, he is predicting snow flurries to accompany a visit by jolly ol’ Santa Claus.
“This race is a fun event,” Martin said. “Get a chance to talk with Santa early in the season and help provide needed assistance to those less fortunate at the same time.”
Online registration is available through www.sportoften.com and a printable race brochure is at www.salisburyrowanrunners.org. Martin can be reached at 704-202-5351. Millbridge Ruritan is located at 490 Sloan Road, Mount Ulla, less than a mile off N.C. 150.
