Want to see 600 years of history in 6,000 seconds? Do you like comedy for smart people? Will you be ready for some comic relief after the election season?
If the answer is yet, Lee Street Theatre has the show for you: The Complete History of America (Abridged),” opening in Salisbury Nov. 7.
Written by Adam Long, Reed Martin and Austin Tichenor, the show stars Brian Romans, Jacob Asher and Jason Roland, three acting veterans whose rapid-fire delivery will have audiences in stitches.
From Washington to Watergate, from New World to New World Order, the show promises to be a wild rollercoaster ride, exploring such controversial questions as: Who really discovered America? Why did Lincoln free the slaves? How many Democrats does it take to screw in a light bulb?
The show will be performed this Friday for a group of students at Carson High School in the morning and at Salisbury High School in the afternoon.
Believe it or not, says director Justin Dionne, the play does offer students real history. The sketches are all based on actual events – but of course they’re twisted to delightful comic purpose.
The school groups, he adds, will get a less risque version than the regular show, which is decidedly PG-13 and contains some crude humor.
Stage manager is Lizelle Restar; lighting is by Adam York. The play is sponsored by the Rowan Tourism Authority.
“The Complete History of America (Abridged)” will be performed Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 3-4, at 8 p.m. at the Warehouse Performing Arts Center, 9216-A Westmoreland Road in Cornelius Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for students and seniors.
The show comes to the Looking Glass Artist Center’s Black Box theatre, 405 N. Lee St., next Wednesday, Nov. 7-Saturday, Nov. 10 and Nov. 16-17 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the Salisbury performances are $10 general admission.
