Hillbilly Hiking Club donates to Christmas Happiness

?Members of the Hillbilly Hiking Club decided a year after forming they would begin contributing to the annual Christmas Happiness Fund.
The men, who formed the club seven years ago and meet Sundays to hike, gave $25 this week.
Whitey Harwood, the founder of the club, jokingly said the men gave because he told them to give.
“It just seemed like the right thing to do,” he said.
The other members of the club are Jeff Harwood, Sammy Chewning, Charlie Whitehead and Dick Brisbin.
The annual fund helps low-income families provide Christmas presents for their children. The program is sponsored by the Salisbury Post, which accepts donations. The Rowan County Department of Social Services distributes vouchers to eligible families.
Bring contributions to the Salisbury Post, 131 W. Innes St., between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays or mail them to The Salisbury Post Christmas Happiness Fund, P.O. Box 4639, Salisbury, NC 28145-4639.
Make checks payable to the Christmas Happiness Fund and indicate how you wish your donations to be listed.
