Cooleemee serving chicken stew Saturday
COOLEEMEE — On Saturday, residents can come to the Zachary House for Walter Ferrell’s chicken stew. Eating starts at 4:30 pm.
Sponsored by the Cooleemee Recreation Department, the all-you- can-eat stew and a drink is $5. Hot dogs will also be sold.
Included will be a cornhole tournament at 1 p.m. and a horseshoe tournament at 3 p.m. Entry fees for these contests are $5 each. Cash prizes will be awarded as a 50-50 split of the entry fees.
Two new fire pits have been installed by volunteers on either side of the brick Memorial Walkway that leads to the historic Zachary House. Proceeds from the annual chicken stew go to the recreation department for kids programs, camps and equipment.
