A Cabarrus County man who was the subject of a silver alert was found dead near his home Tuesday afternoon.
Johnny Jack Mooney, 81, was found dead in a creek north of his Midland home about 3:30 Tuesday afternoon.
Mooney, who suffered from Alzheimer’s disease, had been reported missing Monday. He lived alone and walked daily, sometimes near Locust. Allen Volunteer Fire Department, Georgeville VFD, Mount Mitchell VFD, Midland VFD and Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office personnel were involved in the search of wooded and brush-covered land within 1 mile of the Mooney residence. The cause of death, while not deemed suspicious, is still under investigation. No other information is currently available.
