MOUNT ULLA – If you plan to attend the West Rowan versus Salisbury game tonight, the West Rowan Crazies would appreciate some canned goods.
The Crazies, a student-led cheering section, are asking people to bring canned goods to honor Cody Rives, who was killed Monday along with friend Ty Johnson in an accident.
Rives was driving to visit a family friend after school and Johnson was a passenger in the vehicle when it crashed on Sherrills Ford Road, a few miles east of the school.
Rives, 16, had a dream to one day be able to feed children who were without food. His classmates hope to fulfill that dream.
The students will dress in red, white and blue in honor of Johnson, who was a part of the school’s JROTC program.
Student Alison Sobataka said the students plan to take the food to High Rock Community Church’s Salisbury-East campus, where Rives was apart of the youth ministry there.
Sobataka said students are in the early stages of planning a tribute to honor Johnson.Contact reporter Shavonne Potts at 704-797-4253.
