SALISBURY — A home manufactured in Salisbury will bring together Republicans and Democrats during their upcoming nominating conventions in Tampa and Charlotte.
Champion Home Builders has been chosen to provide a home for the House United Project. Half of the house will go to Tampa this month and half to Charlotte next month. Convention-goers will work alongside TV personality Ty Pennington to finish the house halves.
After the construction is complete, the halves will be “united” when they are delivered and installed on a lot in Charlotte in the Belmont neighborhood in October. The completed home will then be donated to the military veteran.
Champion is a leading producer of modular homes, manufactured homes and buildings for government and commercial applications.
The company was chosen to partner with Craftsman, NextGen Home, Bank of America and nonprofit organizations Rebuilding Together and Heroes at Home. The Salisbury facility builds and markets the Carolina Building Solutions brand.
Pennington will lead the charge to complete one half of a NextGen edition of a Champion home during the Republican National Convention in Tampa on Aug. 28 and the other half during the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte on Sept. 3.
Candidates, delegates, elected officials and their staff, convention attendees and community members in both locations are invited to literally swing a hammer, nail two-by-fours and paint walls alongside Pennington during the events.
“We are very proud to be a part of this incredible partnership and program,” said Jeff Mooring, general manager for Champion in Salisbury. “Our military veterans and their families are some of the most deserving people in the nation and our employees are honored to be a part of the construction of the home.
“This is a great opportunity for our plant to showcase the fine quality of Carolina Building Solutions homes.”
