North Carolina volunteers for President Barack Obama’s campaign now have an extra incentive to dial their phones and knock on doors.
First Lady Michelle Obama announced the “9-3-1” pledge while campaigning for the president Wednesday in Greensboro. In exchange for nine hours of volunteering in three shifts, supporters will earn one seat in the audience when the president accepts the Democratic nomination.
According to Obama for America NC, volunteers must complete their hours by Aug. 18 to get their reward.
Obama will make his acceptance speech at Bank of America Stadium on Sept. 6, the final night of the 2012 Democratic National Convention in Charlotte. On the previous two nights, the convention will take place at the Time Warner Cable Arena.
The Obama For America campaign has opened an office in Salisbury, located at 1411 W. Innes St.
To sign up, volunteers can call 980-298-1749 for the local office or visit http://nc.barackobama.com/ Your-Seat-in-Charlotte.

Richard Hudson, Republican candidate for U.S. House District 8, is getting a boost from his fellow party members in Congress.
The National Republican Congressional Committee announced July 18 that Richard Hudson has reached “young gun” status, the top tier of the Committee’s four-level recruitment program.
The “Young Guns” program backs candidates who meet specific campaign benchmarks to help them win on Election Day. That support can include campaign advice, polling, advertising and financial contributions.
According to the committee’s press release, Hudson rose from “on the radar” to “young gun” status by “establishing a clear path to victory through his ability to build a formidable campaign structure and achieve important goals and benchmarks.”
