SALISBURY — A new bluegrass gospel group, The Gospel Plowboys, will make its debut performance at 6 p.m. Sunday at Safe Harbor Baptist Church, 270 Dunn’s Mountain Road.
The group was formed to be a ministry to serve the Lord in song, according to David Murph, one of the band members. The group dresses in bib overalls and ties as a tribute to the 1930s, when bluegrass music was beginning to gain popularity.
Murph says the Plowboys concentrate on good instrumentation and three- and four-part harmonies on vocals.
The members are Murph, mandolin and vocals; Mike Jenkins, guitar and vocals; John Goodson, banjo, guitar and vocals; Andrew Brown, upright bass and vocals; and Steve Grant, dobro and vocals.
