SALISBURY — The 1500-block of Brenner Avenue is closed this morning after crews hit a natural gas line near the intersection with South Link Avenue.
Fire Capt. Mark Thompson said one building of the V.A. Medical Center was evacuated, but first responders did not find any dangerous gas levels.
“Crews doing some work in the area hit a 4-inch gas main, ruptured it,” Thompson said.
Firefighters were on the scene with a 5-inch hose as a precaution and responders advised neighbors in the area to stay inside if possible.
The nearest building to the rupture was Building 1 of the hospital, Thompson said.
The administrative building was checked for increased gas levels, Thompson said, but despite safe readings the staff was evacuated.
Thompson said it wasn’t immediately clear which company hit the line.
