Yesterday: Ellis Street School
June Brantley Ervin provided this circa 1913 photograph to the Post of the fifth-grade class at Ellis Street School (later Frank B. John Elementary). Her late father, James Carson Brantley, is the boy on the third row, second from the left. (He has on a white shirt.) Brantley was born in 1903. Salisbury has a locally designated historic district named for the old Ellis Street Graded School, whose location today serves as offices for Rowan-Salisbury Schools. Call or contact Mark Wineka at 704-797-4263, or mwineka@salisburypost.com, if you have a ‘Yesterday’ photograph to share.
