SALISBURY — A Salisbury man who won more than $300,000 playing the N.C. Education Lottery earlier this month said he plans to take a vacation and save for the future with his windfall.
James Stockton matched all five numbers to win the jackpot in a July 7 drawing for the lottery’s Carolina Cash 5 game.
“I couldn’t believe it,” Stockton said in a press release from the lottery organization. “I played Cash 5 because I wanted to see if my odds were better. It sure looks like they were. This is a good day.”
After taxes, Stockton’s win is worth $206,214, the press release said.
The Post tried to contact a James Stockton with a telephone listing in Salisbury, but a message was not returned.
Stockton bought his ticket at the Village Grocery and Garden Shop on U.S. 601 North. It was the second time in just over a year that someone had hit a six-digit jackpot in the Carolina Cash 5 with a ticket bought at the store. In March 2011, Lloyd Pullen of Salisbury won $366,000 playing the game there.
