Man dies when hit by train in Thomasville

THOMASVILLE (AP) — Police say a man has died after he was struck by an Amtrak train in Thomasville.
Thomasville police say they were called shortly before 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The man’s name has not been released while relatives are notified.
Investigators say the man was trying to cross the tracks when he was hit.
Police Capt. Darren Smith said the train stopped about a quarter mile from where it hit the man. The train was estimated to be traveling 72 mph when it hit the victim.
