A section of Dale Earnhardt Boulevard between Rogers Lake Road and Fairview Road has been temporarily closed. A road construction crew accidentally hit and ruptured a water main, causing a portion of the road to wash away. NCDOT personnel are on site and are evaluating the situation. They estimate the road will be closed through Monday for repairs.
Water service should be restored to the area by this afternoon. The city will provide an update once NCDOT determines the road can be safely reopened.
Residents are asked to use detours from Rogers Lake Road to Main Street. and from Cannon Boulevard to Fairview to Dale Earnhardt Boulevard until the road is reopened.
