FAITH — A 3-year-old was transported by helicopter to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center after emergency crews said she was apparently struck by a vehicle Sunday night.
Rockwell Rural Fire Capt. Alan Shinn said the girl was injured on Deck Lane, a dead-end dirt road just outside of Faith city limits, about 8:15 p.m.
Authorities were investigating the incident Sunday night. A North Carolina State Highway Patrol telecommunicator said the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office was handling the investigation.
A call to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office was not returned Sunday night.
Shinn said the toddler was alert and conscious when she was airlifted from a field on Rainey Road, about a half of a mile from Deck Lane, about 8:45 p.m.
According to scanner traffic, the girl is suspected to have sustained a broken arm and several internal injuries from the incident.
“The child said she was run over,” Shinn said.
Crews said the girl’s parents called 911.
Traffic was temporarily stopped at the 600-block of Rainey Road while crews landed the helicopter.
