CHINA GROVE — It took nearly a year, but the correct 2010 census numbers have now been restored to the town, adding just more than 800 people to the population.
When the census count was reported, China Grove officials realized the numbers just weren’t adding up. The count showed the town had about 827 less people than it had in the previous census count.
The town had to prove it had more than the census initially counted. The amendments took some time since the town couldn’t file an appeal until July.
The town received a letter late last week from Robert Groves, director of the U.S. Census Bureau, saying the numbers were revised and the population corrected.
