Two men stopped at license check face drug charges

Two East Spencer men face drug charges following a driver’s license check in the area.
On Thursday, members of the ACE Team stopped a burgundy Honda Accord. While talking with the driver, a Rowan County Sheriff’s deputy detected an odor of marijuana coming from the interior. Deputies removed the driver and passenger and searched the car.
The report says a .40 caliber handgun and 5 pounds of marijuana were found.
Charged were driver Duane Lamonte Bowers, 40, 405 Academy St., Cleveland: felony possession of marijuana, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, maintaining a vehicle/dwelling/place for the sale; possession of drug paraphernalia;
Passenger Jason Ahman Wesley Smith, 32, 3805 Cliffdale Road, Salisbury: felony possession of marijuana, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia.
The Honda was seized and both defendants were placed in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $10,000 bond. The first appearance is set for Monday.
The marijuana seized has a street value of $11,440.
