Alleged robbery victim arrested on drug charges

SALISBURY — A Catawba Drive man who told deputies he was robbed by former friends last month has been arrested on several drug charges.
According to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office, Jared Charbonneau was taken into custody at his probation office May 19 and charged with two counts of felony trafficking heroin or opium and felony probation violation.
He has since been additionally charged with failing to appear in court and misdemeanor larceny on separate incidents. According to court records, Charbonneau is also scheduled for court on a charge of felony child abuse.
He was in jail Monday morning under a $22,500 bond.
The 31-year-old told deputies on April 20 he was robbed at gunpoint after he agreed to meet a friend at a Salisbury intersection about 2 a.m.
Charbonneau told officers Behtan Hashemzadeh and Michael Fulcher arrived in a Ford Ranger.
He said Hashemzadeh got out of the car, pointed a handgun at him and grabbed the cash Charbonneau was holding.
Fulcher was charged with felony aiding and abetting. Hashemzadeh was charged with felony robbery with a dangerous weapon.
