GOLD HILL — Masons will compete in the Masonry Apprentice Skills Contest at 10 a.m. Saturday in Gold Hill.
The N.C. Masonry Contractor’s Association is hosting the annual contest, sponsored by Johnson Concrete. The event is open to the public and will be held at the Carolina Stalite facility, a subsidiary of Johnson Concrete, at the Ben Ketchie Park across the street from Vulcan Material’s plant, 16745 Old Beatty Ford Road in Gold Hill.
Masonry contractors from across the state enter new employees in the contest, where they have two hours to build a masonry panel. Several masonry contractors are sponsoring students from local high schools to compete under the banner of their companies.
Industry experts judge the craftsmanship and select the winner, who goes on to Las Vegas to compete in the national event. The event will include free entertainment and lunch for people who come to watch the contest.
