Summer aviation camp
Teens from Salisbury and the surrounding area will experience Aviation Summer Camp — Exploring New Dimensions (ASCEND) where they will be able to learn about aircraft and what makes them fly, participate in hands-on activities including covering a wing and how to work with sheet metal, explore careers in aviation, travel to the Charlotte Aviation Museum, and experience a flight in a general aviation aircraft.
The camp will be held June 18-23 from 9 a.m-3 p.m. Monday through Friday with a special flight Saturday morning for attendees.
To apply for ASCEND, visit www.1083.com, download an application and mail to EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) Chapter 1083, 3310 Airport Loop Road, Hangar 18, Salisbury NC, 28147.
There are some scholarships available; apply early to qualify. The deadline for applications is May 25. For other questions, call or e-mail Jana Brown, education coordinator at lebrown@ptmc.net or 336-752-2574.
More than $9,000 was awarded to EAA Chapter 1083 in Salisbury by the Taco Bell Foundation for Teens. The funds will support real-world experiential programs that help Salisbury and other surrounding area teens stay in school and graduate. EAA Chapter 1083 will serve approximately 30 teens through this Graduate to Go experience grant.
