The Humane Society of Rowan County held its Lights of Love luminaria display Friday night at City Lake.
The annual event is held in celebration of “Be Kind to Animals Week,” a time set aside to commemorate the role animals play in our lives and to encourage the humane treatment of them.
Proceeds from the event go for veterinary care of sick or injured stray and abandoned animals.
The candles were lit at dusk and remained burning until 9:30 p.m. Participants were able to donate pet food for use by families in need of assistance.
