The Rowan District annual Civitan Scout Show was held April 20-21 at Dan Nicholas Park. Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and Venture Crews arrived at the Miller Pond Scout area on Friday and spent a night camping, singing campfire songs and taking a night hike.
Events on Saturday included a variety of displays to demonstrate Scout skills to the visitors, such as knot tying relays, cooking demonstrations and fire building. The Scouts played games including darts, horseshoes and sack races, and they built soda bottle rockets and sailed in rain gutter regatta competitions.
A sailboat was also on display to represent the water activities done by the Boy Scouts and Venture Crews.
Amy Frank, assistant district commissioner, and Mike Rowell, scoutmaster of troop 333, were co-chairmen of the event.
Thomas Griffin, Rowan District commissioner and committee chairman of Cub Scout pack 333, chartered by St. Matthews Lutheran Church, organized the Pinewood Derby race. There were 87 participants in the race and Cub Scouts from across Rowan County watched.
Carson Ritchie, Pack 333, was the grand champion.
