Albemarle man charged with murder in fatal fire

ALBEMARLE (AP) — An Albemarle man has been arrested and charged with murder in a fire that killed two people in Stanly County last week.
Twenty-seven-year-old Brandon Scott Coggins is accused of setting fire to a mobile home where two people were sleeping.
The fire was reported about 6:30 a.m. Friday in the Palestine community near Albemarle. Firefighters said the home was engulfed in flames when they arrived.
They found the bodies of 85-year-old Earnest Daniel Hopkins and 77-year-old Thelma Jean Britt inside.
Investigators have not released a motive.
