Man charged with trafficking narcotics

CLEVELAND — A Hamptonville man was taken into custody during a check point Saturday night after authorities said he was trafficking narcotics.
Billy Ray Burwell, 40, of Troy Mill Road was stopped on Old U.S. 70 in Cleveland during a DWI check point about 11:30 p.m.
Deputies said Burwell was carrying a number of illegal substances as well as a handgun in the car.
A complete report of the drug seizure was not available Monday morning.
Burwell was charged with two counts of felony trafficking opium, felony maintaining a vehicle for keeping or storing drugs, felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver narcotics, three counts of simple possession of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia and carrying a concealed weapon.
He was in jail Monday under a $150,000 bond.
