SALISBURY — A 23-year-old woman was airlifted to a Winston-Salem hospital after police said a drunk driver ran off the road and hit her Saturday night.
Officers found the driver, Cesar Rojas, near the crash scene shortly after arriving, an arrest report said. He was immediately taken into custody.
Christie Michelle Myers Waller, of Cypress Lane, was found lying in a nearby ditch in the 500 block of Gold Hill Drive.
Salisbury Police said Rojas, 23, was turning from Carolina Boulevard onto Gold Hill Drive when his black Honda Prelude swerved off the road and hit Waller about 2 a.m. Saturday.
Waller had a broken leg and possible head trauma, police said, and she was airlifted to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
A hospital spokesperson said Waller was not listed in the hospital’s directory Monday morning.
Rojas refused a blood alcohol breathalyzer test on the scene, officers said, but he was taken to Rowan Regional Medical Center and a blood test was taken.
He was then charged with felony hit and run, driving while impaired and driving without an operator’s license.
Rojas, of Crown Point Drive, was in jail Monday under a $12,500 bond.
