SALISBURY — A 22-year-old woman died late Friday night after she ran off the road on N.C. 150 and struck a utility pole.
She was not wearing a seat belt, the N.C. State Highway Patrol said.
Sgt. E.T. Suttles of the Highway Patrol would not release the woman’s name Monday, although he said her family had been notified.
Suttles said the woman was not from Rowan County, but he would not say where she lived.
The woman was traveling west on the road in a late 1990s model Jeep when she crossed the center line, Suttles said. The woman ran off the road to the left, striking a mailbox and the utility pole.
The single-vehicle collision occurred at 11:01 p.m at a time when the roads were getting pelted with sleet and hail, Suttles said. Even though the woman was going the posted 55 mph speed limit, he said, a Highway Patrol investigator determined she “was going too fast for conditions.”
