SALISBURY — A 22-year-old Mooresville woman died late Friday night after she ran off the road on N.C. 150 and struck a utility pole.
The N.C. State Highway Patrol said Mary Loretta Cassada, who lives on Spruce Street, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
Cassada was traveling west on the road in a late 1990s model Jeep when she crossed the center line and ran off the road to the left before striking a mailbox and the utility pole, Sgt. E.T. Suttles said.
The single-vehicle collision occurred at 11:01 p.m at a time when the roads were getting pelted with sleet and hail, Suttles said.
Suttles said even though Cassada was going the posted 55 mph speed limit, a Highway Patrol investigator determined she “was going too fast for conditions.”
